Anyone with a deposit can buy a small acreage of land on the Peninsula and unwittingly change the course of our history.
The land may have been a home for kangaroos for over 30,000,000 years.
In comparison you may only own this investment for only 10 years.
You might decide to farm 3 goats on your investment, and to do this justifies;
- A need to eradicate kangaroos in case your fences get damaged so you apply for permit – Permit granted and no more roos for you
- Ring the local shooter with a harvesting licence, again no more roos for you
- Erect a kangaroo proof fence and free your property of wildlife
Unfortunately with land prices soaring has resulted in the above scenarios becoming the norm along with bulldozing down our native trees and replacing with rows of pine trees.
We need to recognise this death by 1000 cuts and challenge the common practice of profit over environment.
